The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Derek Plumby, said Monday the situation in Lebanon and in the Arab region is critical, local National News Agency reported.
Plumby featured the current situation in Lebanon and the repercussions of the 16-month-long events in Syria on the Lebanese internal arena in a lecture upon the invitation of Harvard Alumni in Lebanon.
"Lebanon is somehow affected by what Syria is witnessing, which has repercussions on some Lebanese regions, namely Tripoli and Sidon, in addition to the assassination attempt against Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea and MP Boutros Harb," he said.
The envoy also highlighted the ongoing cooperation between the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Lebanese Armed Forces in south of the country so as to guarantee the implementation of UN resolution 1701.
Plumby said the United Nations upheld the call of Lebanon's President Michel Suleiman to re-launch all-party national dialogue. |
