Lebanon not to be corridor for arms smuggling
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-08-01 23:50

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman said he refuses to allow the Lebanese territories to turn into a corridor for arms smuggling, the National News Agency reported Wednesday.

In his Army Day speech at the Shukri Ghanem barracks in Fayyadiyeh, the president emphasized that the army has the sole responsibility of defending Lebanon's independence and security, reiterating his rejection of proliferated weapons across the country.

He added that "the state will not accept the army to be coerced to abandon its duties anywhere in Lebanon."

"We will continue to protect the border, help the Syrian refugees, combat terrorism and back the security forces in its mission to uphold law and order," the Lebanese president said.

The Lebanese army will continue to fulfill its duties in the south in collaborating with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon to foil attempts to breach the Blue Line, according to Suleiman.
