Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that Iran is in full control of the Strait of Hormuz, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Monday.
"Iran is the greatest maintainer and protector of security in the Persian Gulf," Sayyari said, while dismissing the United States' announcement of its upcoming exercises in the regional waters and the Persian Gulf as unimportant, according to the report.
According to media reports, the United States, in cooperation with 20 countries, will hold drills in the regional waters near the Persian Gulf in September.
"Washington's decisions, moves and war games have no impact on the Islamic Republic of Iran," said the Iranian commander.
He further warned the Arab states on the southern rims of the Persian Gulf to stay away from the United States and to rely more on their domestic strengths.
Regional security can only be established through the joint cooperation of the regional states, Sayyari was quoted as saying. |
