Jordan's unionists call for amending election law
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-08-11 22:41

Jordan's trade unionists on Saturday called for amending the election law, which was recently endorsed by the country's parliament.

In a statement issued Saturday, the Jordanian trade unionists underlined the need for introducing radical amendments to the election law to meet people's expectations.

Jordan's Lower House and Senate endorsed in June the election law, which increased the number of seats from 120 to 140 and allocated 15 seats for women.

However, the election law was labeled by the opposition as " cosmetic" and unable to realize desired reforms.

Calling for genuine reforms, Jordan's largest opposition party, the Islamic Action Front, voiced its rejection to the election law in late June.
