Iran's foreign ministry calls for massive turnout in Quds Day rallies
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-08-16 23:12

The Iranian foreign ministry called on the Muslims across the world to stage a massive turnout in the rallies observing Quds Day (Jerusalem in Arabic), the semi- official Fars news agency reported on Thursday.

Quds Day was first commemorated in Iran in 1979 and regularly falls on the last Friday of Muslims' holy Ramadan month in the Islamic republic.

In a statement, the foreign ministry urged the Iranians and Muslims from other countries to actively take part in the Quds Day rallies to voice their opposition to the occupation of Holy Quds by Israel, said the report.

The ministry said the Quds Day evokes an Islamic and humanitarian duty that should be shouldered by all Muslims and freedom fighters across the world, according to Fars.

They should voice their support for the legal rights of the Palestinian people and their opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories, the statement was quoted as saying.

Quds Day is also commemorated in several Arab countries.
