2nd attack occurred targeting Palestinians in West Bank within 24 hours
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-08-23 00:10

Unknown vandals sprayed hate slogans on the fence of a Palestinian house in a village near Nablus overnight Tuesday and tried to torch two cars, less than one day after a previous similar assault occurred, according to local media reports.

Palestinian eyewitnesses said that the assailants fled the scene after pouring gasoline on the two vehicles.

An activist told the Palestinian news agency Ma'an that the suspects were settlers from the nearby Jewish village of Itamar.

Security forces have launched an investigation.

On Monday night, arsonists torched the door of a Palestinian village, not far from where Tuesday night's incident occurred, an attack that the army believes was perpetrated by Jewish extremists.

There was some property damage, but no injuries were reported in either case.

So-called "price tag" vandalism attacks have been carried out by Jewish extremists against Palestinians as well as Israeli army forces and left-wing activists, in retaliation for the demolitions of Jewish settlements.

In a related story, the State's Attorney-General's Office (SAO) on Monday ordered the eviction of the Migron outpost, also in the West Bank.

The move came in response to an appeal by residents against the pending eviction, originally ordered in 2006.

At the time, the court's decision prompted several violent attacks by irate Jewish settlers against soldiers and left-wing activists.

On Thursday, unknown assailants threw a firebomb at a Palestinian taxi in the southern West Bank, injuring five Palestinian family members who suffered moderate to serious wounds.

A police officer said the attack was likely carried out by Jews and was nationalistically-motivated.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack and instructed the army to "act with determination" to apprehend those behind it.
