Netanyahu sends condolences to families of U.S. slain diplomats
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-09-13 07:20

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent his condolences on Wednesday to the families of the four U.S. diplomats who were killed in Libya, when a mob of extremists threw rockets at the consulate in Benghazi.

"Today we were informed of the tragic murder of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya and the three consulate staffers in the U.S. consulate in Benghazi," read a document sent to the press on Wednesday.

"The people of Israel grieve with the American people; we send our condolences to the families," read the press release.

On Tuesday, throngs of Libyans angered over a U.S. movie, produced by a Jewish Business man in the United States and insulting Islam's Prophet Mohammed, stormed into the U.S. consulate grounds and threw rockets at the building, which caused a fire. Three members of the consulate and the U.S. ambassador to Libya died of smoke inhalation.

Netanyahu sends his condolences at a rocky time in relations between Israel and the United States, after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Sunday that her country will not be giving Iran any "red lines" or "deadlines" over its nuclear program.

Israel's government has been trying to persuade the United States to draw red lines to deter Iran from pursuing its nuclear ambitions.
