Palestinian militant dies in Israel airstrikes
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-10-15 03:15

A Palestinian militant died Sunday shortly after he was injured in the continuous Israeli airstrikes in central Gaza Strip, putting the number of Palestinians killed in the round of violence to five, according to medics.

Ahmed Fatayer, 24, died at a hospital in central Gaza Strip, according to a medical spokesperson.

Fatayer was injured when the airplanes hit a tuk tuk travelling to the east of Deir al-Balah city. In the attack, another militant, Ezz Edeen Abu Nassir, was killed immediately.

Israel started a series of aerial raids in Gaza since Saturday evening.

Israel claimed the strike targeted the militants who were involved in firing rockets against its territories. The Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), to which the two dead belonged, said the fighters were firing rockets to avenge for the killing of three Palestinians in two airstrikes that Israel started Saturday evening.

One of the dead in the first airstrike was identified as Hisham al-Saidani, the leader of the Tawheed and Jihad, a radical Islamic group affiliated with the Global Jihad organization.

Al-Saidani was released from a Hamas-run prison in August. He was held as part of Hamas' efforts to curb the Salafist groups from consolidating their base in Gaza.

Israel said that al-Saidani's group was responsible for firing a Grad rocket into Western Negev Friday. The rocket fell in the yard of a house and caused slight damage.

Israel blames the organization for attacking its territories from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and the neighboring Sinai Peninsula.
