Tunisian FM visits Gaza, urges Israel to halt fire
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-11-17 18:14

Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem visited the Gaza Strip amid Israeli air raids on Saturday, the pan-Arab Al-Jazeera news channel reported.

The Tunisian top diplomat led a delegation to the coastal enclave to express solidarity with the Palestinians.

Denouncing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip as "unacceptable," Abdessalem called on Israel to halt such attacks and urged the Arab League to take measures to improve the situation.

Abdessalem's visit came after Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil paid a brief visit to Gaza on Friday morning, during which Qandil said Egypt has started and will continue its efforts to end the Israeli "aggression" on the Gaza Strip.

Also on Friday, Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki expressed his country's support to the Palestinian people and denounced the Israeli air raids on the Gaza Stripe in a phone call with the de facto Hamas government Prime Minister Ismail Haneya.

Marzouki said Tunisia is ready to send humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Israeli air raids on Gaza entered the fourth day on Saturday, killing four Palestinians in the morning after a night of airstrikes that were focused on government facilities.
