The Damascus-based oppositional group National Coordination Body (NCB) on Tuesday hailed the UN's announcement of the date of the Geneva II peace conference on Syria, warning that the failure of the conference would endanger Syria and the entire region.

At a press conference held Tuesday in the capital Damascus, NCB, the largest political opposition group in Syria, urged all concerned parties in Syria to make the conference successful, warning that the failure of the peace talks would pose a grave danger on Syria and the entire region.

The NCB said the Geneva II conference was based on the results of the previous conference in Geneva last year that had drawn a roadmap to solve the crisis in Syria but never materialized.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said a day earlier that the Geneva II should result in a transitional government in Syria as agreed upon in last year's conference.

"The NCB urges all concerned parties to make the political process successful in the hope of transmitting Syria to a democratic, political system in the future Syria," the NCB said in a statement read during a press conference.

The opposition group also underscored the importance of international, regional and Arab consensus as well as a consensus among the opposition groups to make the conference a success.
