Lebanese President Michel Suleiman on Thursday expressed hope that the ongoing Geneva II peace talks could find a solution to the long-standing Syrian crisis.
The UN-sponsored conference convened in the Swiss town of Montreux on Wednesday.
In a statement by his media office, Suleiman reiterated Lebanon 's support to a political solution to the crisis, which would also bring back stability and security to Syria's neighboring countries and help the refugees return home.
He also stressed the importance of sticking to the policy of distancing his country from the Syrian crisis, referring mainly to Hezbollah, the Shiite militant group that has been fighting along with the Syrian government forces on the ground, which created a deep rift in Lebanon's domestic factions.
Tensions have been running high in Lebanon as it witnessed a string of sectarian clashes in its northern port city of Tripoli.
According to UN report, there are more than 880,000 registered Syrians currently taking shelter in Lebanon.
