Turkish Special Task forces on Friday entered a passenger plane and arrested an Ukrainian man who attempted to hijack the plane to divert it to Sochi, Russia, where the Winter Olympics Games are taking place.

All the passengers on board the flight are safe, according to Turkish official.

Earlier in the day, the plane from Ukraine made an emergency landing in Istanbul after the hijack attempt.

The Ukrainian passenger claimed that there was a bomb on the Pegasus Airlines aircraft PGT751, departed from Kharkov, Ukraine, and tried to get into cockpit of the plane, demanding the plane to be diverted to Sochi, according to CNN Turk.

The pilot of the airplane didn't open the door and managed to sound the alert.

Two Turkish F-16 military jets then were scrambled to force the airliner with 110 passengers on board to land at the Sabiha Gokcen airport in Istanbul, according to a statement of the Turkish Transportation Ministry.

Istanbul Governor, Huseyin Avni Mutlu, said Friday night that the Ukrainian would-be hijacker was arrested and all passengers on board are safe.

"The hijacker apparently intended to send some message in Sochi. He wanted to talk with the Ukrainian diplomats during negotiation. After our mediation, he agreed to evacuate all the passengers," Mutlu told reporters at the Sabiha Gokcen Airport.

"He (the hijacker) was slightly injured. But the special forces didn't use guns. No bomb has been detected on him," he added.

Late Friday, Turkish Transportation Ministry announced that the operation was over and the airport reopened to traffic.
