An explosive device exploded in a car in the northeastern border town of Arsal on Monday, leaving the car owner and several people wounded, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

According to the NNA report, "the car exploded near the old municipality building and the Grand Mosque inside the town of Arsal," pointing out that the bomb was placed under the driver's seat of a 4x4 GMC owned by Hassan Ezzeddine.

The blast "severed Ezzeddine's feet and he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance," the agency said.

Arsal, which enjoys a 50-km border line with Syria harbors at least 45,000 Syrian refugees.

It has been the scene of fierce clashes between the fundamentalist gunmen of al-Qaida linked al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State (IS) with the Lebanese army in August.

After five days of clashes, the gunmen withdrew to Syria taking with them at least 28 soldiers and policemen as hostages.

Al-Nusra executed two soldiers while the IS beheaded another few days after their withdrawal, and then on Friday, al-Nusra executed another policemen.
