Spanish swimmer, Mireia Belmonte' s incredible year continued on Saturday night when she set a new world record for the 1,500 meters in a 25 meters pool.
Belmonte, who has only just returned to Spain after winning 4 gold medals in the World Short Course Championships in Doha, set a new record time of 15:19.71 while participating in the Spanish Championships in her hometown of Sabadell, close to Barcelona.
Her time knocked almost three seconds off the previous best, held by New Zealand' s Lauren Boyle and as over six seconds better than her previous personal best time of 15:26.59.
The new world record completed another incredible day for Belmonte, who as well as setting a new 1,500 meters world record and winning the gold medal, was also proclaimed national 400 meters medley, 400 meters freestyle and 200 meters butterfly champion after winning all three races.
