The Prime Minister of the Palestinian unity government Rami Hamdallah announced on Monday that his government has formed a committee to run all Gaza Strip crossing points.

The committee, which will start its mission on Tuesday, "aims at enabling his government to freely and fully perform in the Gaza Strip," Hamdallah said in an emailed press statement.

He added that ruling the crossing by his unity government, which was formed in accordance to a reconciliation agreement reached with Hamas movement in early June, will make construction materials enter Gaza easier.

The committee includes three senior Palestinian officials, who are basically senior Palestinian National Authority officials and none of whom is from Hamas or other political factions.

"The committee needs the support of all political powers in order to empower the efforts to succeed the mission of the unity government in meeting the bad needs of the Gaza Strip populations," the statement said.

Forming the committee came six months after the formation of the government. Hamas and opponents to Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas accused Abbas and Hamdallah for neglecting Gaza Strip urgent needs.
