The Syrian warplanes carried out multiple airstrikes against the rebels' positions in the vicinity of two besieged pro-government towns on Sunday, leaving unknown losses, the pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV reported.

The airstrikes came against the backdrop of the rebels' ongoing shelling of the towns of Nubul and Zahra in the countryside of Aleppo. A day earlier, at least five people were killed as a result of the mortar shelling on the both towns.

The towns, which are inhabited by people of the Shiite minority, have been besieged by the rebels since a couple of years ago.

Separately, the state news agency SANA said the Syrian troops are still progressing against the rebels in southern Syria, mainly in the countryside of the Daraa province.

It said the terrorist groups there are working on the behest of a joint intelligence operation room in Jordan, joined by security agents from Israel, the United States, France, Britain and Saudi Arabia.

Citing a military source, SANA said the troops on Sunday dealt heavy blows to the rebels in the towns of Ayb, around 75 km north of Daraa.

Also on Sunday, the Syrian troops ambushed around nine IS fighters in the countryside of the central province of Homs, according to local press.
