Austrian President Heinz Fischer arrived in Iran's capital Tehran on Monday for talks on the enhancement of mutual cooperation.
During his three-day visit, Fischer will meet Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and Iranian Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani to discuss boost of ties in diverse areas.
Fischer, who is accompanied by Vice Chancellor Reinhold Mittelehner and Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz and a group of economic, cultural and academic delegation, will attend a conference on bilateral relations.
He is also scheduled to visit Iran's central touristic city of Isfahan.
The Austrian president is the first European Union (EU) head of state to visit Iran since 2004. Former Austrian president, Thomas Klestil, visited the country in 2004.
A number of Western countries' officials have recently visited Tehran, on the back of the historic nuclear accord between Iran and the world powers on July 14 in Vienna, trying to boost ties in the aftermath of the lift sanctions against the country.
