More efforts key to maintain U.S. growth momentum: Summers
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-15 09:28

Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers said here on Wednesday that he was encouraged by the recent U.S. economic data pointing to a stronger recovery, but called on more efforts to keep up the recovery momentum.

He was heartened by the string of positive economic reports in recent months, but stressed that the U.S. government should continue maintaining the economic policy focus on stimulating domestic demand including measures like tax reforms, infrastructure projects and among others, Summers said at a high- ranking economic conference organized by the Atlantic magazine.

Tax reform should be a policy priority for the government, noted the former chief economist of U.S. President Barack Obama.

The U.S. economy has expanded by 10 quarters in a row and the unemployment rate has dropped by five consecutive months by January, suggesting that the world's largest economy was on a stronger footing.
