Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-07-02 15:18

Indonesia's exports in May decreased by 8.55 percent to 16.72 billion U.S. dollars year on year as the debt crisis in Europe has sapped demand of commodities, the National Statistic Bureau announced here on Friday.

But the cumulative exports in the first five months rose by 1. 48 percent to 81.42 billion U.S. dollars on yearly basis, Head of the bureau named only Suryamin told a press conference here. Indonesia's exports are dominated by basic needs such as natural resources products and plantation crops, which make it less affected by the gloomy global economy.

The Southeast Asia largest economy relies on exports less than other Asian peers in which the country's exports is only account of about 26 percent of the GDP, according to Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan.

On import, it increased by 16.09 percent to 17.21 billion U.S. dollar in April year on year, said Suryamin.
