Vietnam's gems, precious metals import revenue rises sharply in 2013

Vietnam's import revenue of gems and precious metals rose sharply in 2013 to hit 511.81 million U.S. dollars, up 51.6 percent year-on-year, said General Department of Vietnam Customs on Thursday.

Belgium was the largest supplier of gems, precious metals and products to Vietnam in 2013 with the total turnover of 107.2 million U.S. dollars, up 34.1 percent year-on-year, accounting for 20.9 percent of the country's total imported value of the item in 2013.

The United States ranked the second in the list of large exporters of gems and precious metals to Vietnam in 2013 with the revenue of some 62 million U.S. dollars, up 95.25 percent year-on- year, according to the department.

The United States was followed by China with imported value of 43.87 million U.S. dollars. A remarkable growth in China's gems and precious metals export turnover to Vietnam had been seen in 2013, with a dramatic increase of 369 percent year-on-year, said the department.

Besides, several gems, precious metal exporters to Vietnamese market witnessed decrease in revenue including China's Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia and France among others, said the department.
