Warmest July in Norway since 1900

This July, together with July 2014, make the warmest seventh month in Norway since the beginning of nationwide measuring in 1900, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute said on Wednesday.

Both years registered 4.3 degrees above normal in July, and this July is the second driest since 1900, with 55 percent of normal precipitation. The driest July since 1900 was in 1901, with 50 percent of normal precipitation, the institute said.

While 35 stations set new records for low average monthly precipitation, five stations have new records for the highest daily precipitation rates.

The highest temperature of 34.7 degrees was recorded on Andalsnes Kamshaugen in western Norway on July 28.

The warmest station in the Arctic was Bear Island with average temperature of 7.5 degrees, which is 3.1 degrees above normal.
