Big automakers on Wednesday reported mixed auto sales in the United States in July.

Ford Motor Co. saw vehicle sales decrease by 3.1 percent in July, while Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV(FCA) sales were up by 6 percent.

FCA sold 170,970 vehicles in July, and Ford sold 194,026.

FCA's gains were driven by another strong month for the Jeep brand, up 15 percent compared to July 2017. The Ram truck brand was also up slightly, posting a 2 percent gain last month.

Ford's SUV sales fell 1.5 percent while car sales plummeted 27.7 percent. The bright spot for the Blue Oval was its valuable truck lineup, which posted a 10.2 percent gain, according to the automaker.

Both the Ford and Lincoln brands saw sales decrease last month, down 2.7 percent and 11 percent, respectively.

"Ford pickups and vans dominated last month," Mark LaNeve, Ford's sales chief, said in a statement.

GM no longer reports monthly sales figures. Instead, the Detroit-based U.S. automaker is reporting sales in its quarterly earnings report.

The Detroit automakers' performances come amid what some analysts expect to be a down month for the industry, with California-based industry analysis company Edmunds predicting a 2.3 percent decrease from July 2017.
