Aspiring homeowners in Western Australia now have the opportunity to buy an entire town, with the 39 hectares village of Tone River set to go under the hammer on Nov. 14.
Originally built as timber mill in 1952 for 117 workers, the village was shut down over a decade ago before enjoying a short run as a wilderness camp.
Equipped with 20 homes, a town hall, tennis and volleyball courts, a workshop and a range of outdoor facilities including fishing spots, those hoping to become the mayor of Tone River can expect to pay around 1 million Australian dollars (720,000 U.S. dollars).
Selling the property on behalf of the Western Australian government, real estate agent Colin Wallbank told 9News on Friday that despite the isolated location approximately 335 km south of the state capital Perth, Tone River presents "an opportunity of a lifetime." "You'll feel like you've stepped back in time, to a time when life was less complicated," he said.
"It's going to need some imagination and hard work and vision, but the result could be as amazing and as big as you can dream it."
