Slovenia exported 2.88 billion euros (about 3.27 billion U.S. dollars) worth of goods in October this year, about 10.5 percent more than in the same month last year, latest figures from the nation's Statistics Office showed.

Merchandise imports rose by 19.2 percent to 2.94 billion euros, creating a trade deficit of 59.3 million euros.

The Statistics Office said the recorded values of exports and imports in October were the highest this year as well as in recent years.

The 59.3-million-euro deficit is export and import was mostly due to increased imports from non-EU countries, which the office did not elaborate.

Almost 80 percent of Slovenia's merchandise trade was generated in the EU market, namely 78 percent of exports and 76.5 percent of imports.

The data and trends indicate that the contribution of foreign trade to Slovenia's economic growth is set to decrease, with domestic components contributing more, said the Slovenian Press Agency STA on Monday.(one euro currently equals to 1.14 U.S. dollars) Enditem
