French shares edged up on Tuesday with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 1.15 percent, or 51.40 points, to close at 4,773.27 points.

A total of 37 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.

French multinational information technology consulting corporation Cap Gemini advanced 3.77 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. European aviation group Airbus edged up 3.70 percent while French international luxury group Kering rose 3.56 percent.

French telecommunication company Orange went down by 2.96 percent, the top loser of the blue chips. International telecommunication company Bouygues edged down 1.94 percent and global energy giant Total lost 0.21 percent. Enditem
