UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met with Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Monday to discuss the Syrian crisis.
"They agreed on the need for decisive action by the Security Council on Syria, as well as the importance of alleviating the plight of Syrian refugees in the neighboring countries," UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said in a readout to the press here.
The Syrian crisis, which broke out in March 2011, has led to a massive influx of Syrian refugees into neighboring countries, including Turkey.
During the meeting, Ban and Gul also discussed the Middle East Peace Process, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the UN chief sought Turkey's support for a timely and results-oriented resumption of negotiations to reach a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus, he said.
