World champion Jason Richardson predicted on Tuesday that the men's 110m hurdles final at the London Olympics would probably witness a new world record.

"In arguably the fastest Olympic final you are possibly ever going to have in the hurdles, it will probably take a world record," said the 26-year-old American.

Richardson, who was awarded the title in Daegu World Championships after Cuba's Dayron Robles was disqualified for disrupting China's Liu Xiang, had created his personal best at 12.98 seconds in the American qualification trials for Olympics. He thus became only the 13th man in history to break the 13-second barrier for the event.

"It's been amazing to go sub-13, which is definitely a milestone for short hurdlers," said he.

However, the reigning world champion didn't regard himself as the gold medal hopeful in the August 8's Olympic final, which is supposed to be the field for the men's high hurdles of the highest class in history.

"I'm glad to be considered as possibly a medallist but also not being the favourite."

Robles set the world record of 12.87 seconds in Ostrava on June 12, 2008. The former world record of 12.88 seconds was set by Liu Xiang in Lausanne on July 11, 2006.
