For the first time, Clearwire Corp., a wireless broadband service provider largely owned by Sprint Nextel, kicked off the new 4G Internet network in Los Angeles of the United States on Monday.

The service just came in time for Cyber Monday for smartphone, iPad and laptop users , said the company, which operates the first 4G network in the country.

The company said CLEAR 4G will enable people and businesses to access the Internet at speeds four times faster than 3G.

Although 4G is not as fast or reliable as cable and DSL connections, it is the fastest Internet connection for mobile devices, the company said.

In Los Angeles and nearby Orange County, CLEAR potentially covers more than 11 million people, according to the company.

Regionally, the service extends from West Hills, east of Burbank, to Irvine and back up to Ontario, including most of the Los Angeles metro area.

"It is only fitting that on Cyber Monday, the busiest online shopping day of the year, consumers can now access their favorite retail websites while on the go," said Allan Lamb, regional general manager for CLEAR.

CLEAR 4G service is currently available in 68 markets across the United States.

On Cyber Monday which follows a Black Friday weekend, retailers usually try to continue the purchasing momentum by attracting customers online with Cyber Monday deals.
