M1, one of the three major telecommunications carriers in Singapore, announced Thursday that they are scheduled to launch 4G network services across the island on Sept. 15.
M1's 4G service, which is also known as the long-term evolution (LTE) services, will be able to reach theoretical download speeds of up to 75 megabits per second. The typical download speeds at fixed locations will be ranging from 6.9 megabits per second to 17.4 megabits per second.
The M1's service will cover 95 percent of the island-state, including both outdoor and indoor locations, comparing with one of its competitors SingTel's covering of 80 percent nationwide ever since this June, local daily Straits Times said in a statement.
The new generation of service will provide retail and business customers an enhanced experience especially in rich multimedia applications such as high definition video streaming and on-line gaming, as well as enable business customers faster access to cloud applications on-the-go, the M1 said.
In addition, the M1 also provides its customers on 4G roaming with its Hong Kong counterpart. "More countries and operators will be added in the near future," the company added.
In conjunction with its 4G service launch, M1 will also introduce new smartphone and mobile broadband service plans.
