Algeria on Sunday said it is pleased with the agreement that was reached on Saturday night in Geneva, Switzerland, by Iran and world powers on Iran's nuclear program.

"Algeria welcomes the interim agreement announced in Geneva on Iran's nuclear program reached between the Islamic Republic of Iran and negotiators from the 5+1 group," the Algerian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday, reported the official APS news agency.

Algeria, reiterated its preference for dialogue and negotiation to settle international disputes, while congratulating the negotiators on the "breakthrough deal."

"While calling for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, Algeria reaffirms its commitment to the inalienable right to the peaceful uses of the atom for the benefit of developing countries," the ministry added.

"This positive development should have a particular impact on the efforts of Finnish facilitator, Jaakko Laajava, for the holding of the conference for the establishment of a nuclear- weapon-free zone in the Middle East region," concluded the statement.

"We have reached an agreement on a plan of action," announced Sunday EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, in a press conference with the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and United State's Secretary of State John Kerry, as well as the foreign ministers of China, Russia, Britain, France and Germany.

This accord, reached after four days of long negotiations, is meant to curb Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for limited sanctions relief.
