Ukraine's embattled president Victor Yanukovych is due to make a public statement in Russia's Rostov-on-Don on Tuesday, the RIA Novosti news agency reports with reference to sources in Yanukovych's inner circle.

"The time and the place will be indicated later", the sources said.

On February 22, Ukraine saw a regime change with signs of a state coup. The Supreme Rada removed President Victor Yanukovych from power, changed the constitution, made speaker Alexander Turchinov acting President and set the presidential election for May 25.

Victor Yanukovych said that he had been compelled to flee Ukraine after threatened with bodily harm and that he remains Ukraine's lawfully elected head of state.

Moscow believes that the legitimacy of Ukraine's Supreme Rada decisions is questionable. Some regions in the east and south of Ukraine, as well as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea refused to recognize the legitimacy of Rada decisions, insisting that Yanukovych had been removed from power illegally. They have also decided to hold referendums on the future of their regions.
