Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-07-31 21:06

High expenditure in food products drove French household consumption up by 0.1 percent in June this year, official data showed on Tuesday.

June's increase was supported mainly by a one-percent rise in food products, which offset a 1.3-percent decline of energy consumption, French national statistics bureau Insee said in its monthly economic report.

French households consumed less textile and leather goods following the "late beginning of the summer sales" in June.

Sales of cars purchased also edged down 0.2 percent amid a grim economic climate.

On a quarterly basis, consumption in the April-June period all goods inched down 0.2 percent.

French officials set the country's inflation rate target at 1.7 percent for the whole year of 2012.
