Tokyo Stocks made a strong start at the first session of 2012, as the market was lifted by the positive outlook for the global economy in the new year.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose to 8,557.65, up 102.30 points, or 1.21 percent, from Friday, the final trading session of 2011.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 10.26 points, or 1.41 percent, to 738. 87. |
