Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-08-16 16:40

Indonesian banks, the stock exchange and other financial institutions will be closed from Friday until Wednesday, due to public and Islamic festivity holidays, a media reported here on Thursday.

The central bank has announced that in addition to the public holiday on Indonesia's Independence Day on Friday (Aug. 17) and the regular weekend holidays on Saturday and Sunday, the central bank would also be closed from Monday (Aug. 20) until Wednesday ( Aug. 22) due to the festivity.

Other financial institutions, such as banks, stock and commodities exchanges will be following the central bank's holiday schedule, the Jakarta Post reported here.

The country's largest banks have pledged to keep some of their branches open during the holiday to ensure cash availability for homebound travelers during the festivity.

Bank Central Asia (BCA) president director Jahja Setiaatmadja said last week that 300 BCA branch offices would remain open during the Islamic festivity.

Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) also announced that 200 of its outlets would be operating with limited capacity from Aug. 20 to Aug. 22. BNI would also be offering its weekend banking services at its branch offices on Aug. 18.

Meanwhile, the country's largest lender by assets, Bank Mandiri, announced that all services would remain operational in all regions. Bank Mandiri's commercial and business director, Sunarso, said that Bank Mandiri would deliver its services in all regions using a turn-based system.
