Bangladesh sends drinking water to Maldives
Bangladesh on Sunday sent 100,00 liters of drinking water to water-starved Maldives, according to the Bangladesh Navy.
Bangladesh Navy vessel BNS Samudra Joy departed from the country's southeastern Chittagong city with 100,00 liters of drinkable water and five mobile water treatment plants Sunday, said a press release issued by the Bangladesh Navy.
The Maldives called for international support after a fire at a desalination plant Thursday that led to severe shortages and stirred unrest on the streets of the country's capital Male.
In response to the call, the Bangladesh navy vessel will cross more than 2,700 kilometers through the Indian Ocean and reach Male on Dec. 11, according to the statement.
