One New Zealander aboard downed Malaysia Airlines flight

At least one New Zealand national was aboard Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 which crashed in the Ukraine, New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully confirmed Friday.

He said the unnamed woman had lived in Australia and was traveling with her husband who was a Dutch national, Radio New Zealand reported.

Few other details are available, but McCully said a British national living in New Zealand was also on the flight list.

Earlier Friday, McCully called for an unhindered investigation into the crash.

"It is important that the matter be fully investigated and we call for independent investigators to be allowed access to the crash site," McCully said in a statement.

A reported 298 people were aboard the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft when it crashed in the Ukraine en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur and reports suggested many of them were traveling onwards to Australia and New Zealand.
