Oman crude oil hits 6-week low as US government shutdown looms
The Dubai Mercantile Exchange (DME) Oman crude oil futures contract fell on Monday by 0.77 U.S. dollars or 0.72 percent to 105.44 dollars per barrel, the lowest price level since Aug. 16.
The DME Oman crude contract fell as the countdown to a possible government "shutdown" in the United States on Oct. 1 amid political deadlock over U.S. President Barack Obama's proposal of health care reform weighed on commodity markets and global stock exchanges likewise on Monday.
In the last four weeks, the DME Oman crude oil contract lost 8. 31 percent as tensions over Syria's chemical weapons arsenal eased.
On Saturday, the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed a resolution that demands the elimination of Syria's chemical weapons.
