A 6.6-magnitude quake hit Jinggu county in the city of Pu'er, Southwest China's Yunnan province on Oct 7. Li Bin, minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), asked for full cooperation to help the quake-hit area in terms of medical rescue and disaster relief.

Jinggu county's health bureau initialized a health emergency response immediately after the quake by organizing medical aid from local hospitals. A team of 45 rescue members was also sent by the Pu'er city health bureau to the quake zone, in addition to three provincial medical teams composed of 58 medical staff from Yunnan No 1 People's Hospital, Yunnan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University.

The Yunnan local health bureau has also sent 36 medical personnel from neighboring Xishuangbanna, Lincang, Yuxi and Baoshan to the epicenter for quake relief, with national health emergency teams from Sichuan province, Chongqing and Shaanxi province on call.

As of 6 am on Oct 8, the quake has left one killed and 324 injured, including 12 in serious condition.
