Trade value between east China's Fujian Province and the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) countries totaled 16 billion U.S. dollars from Jan. to August, Xiamen Customs said on Saturday.

Exports and imports value from Fujian to ASEAN during the past eight months reached 16.03 billion U.S. dollars, increasing 21.8 percent year-on-year.

Imports valued 5.15 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 14 percent. Exports stood at 10.88 billion U.S. dollars, up 25.8 percent.

The main partners from the ASEAN were Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia, with trade volume accounting for 60.5 percent of the whole.

The top export-import products were mechanical and electrical products. From Jan. to August, the province imported 1.32 billion U.S. dollars of mechanical and electrical goods from the ASEAN, and exported 3.06 billion U.S. dollars.

China is the largest trading partner of the ASEAN, while the ASEAN ranks as China's third-largest trading partner.

The past decade of China-ASEAN cooperation has witnessed a remarkable increase in bilateral trade, which surged from 54.77 billion U.S. dollars in 2002 to 400.1 billion U.S. dollars in 2012, an annual growth rate of 22 percent.
