China wishes for good start for the P5+1 nuclear talks
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-04-13 16:22

Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Ma Zhaoxu, the Chinese representative to the renewed talks on Iran's disputed nuclear program, on Thursday expressed the hope that the negotiations will be re-launched with a good start.

Ma made the remarks upon his arrival at Ataturk Airport of Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, where the talks will be held on Saturday between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany (P5+1).

The official said that China, as part of the six-nation mechanism, played a constructive role in reconciling concerned parties and persuading them into reviving the P5+1 nuclear talks.

He went on to say that China has three expectations for the upcoming event, the first being that the talks will be re-launched with a good start and proceed in a constructive and sustainable way.

Second, Ma explained, China expects all sides to respect one another, tolerate the other sides' concerns and make efforts to create a conducive environment for the talks.

Last, he said, all parties should be rational, flexible and pragmatic, and try to achieve positive results by seeking common ground in spite of their differences.

However, the Iran nuclear issue is complicated and can not be resolved in a short time, he noted, hence all parties should be optimistic and patient no matter what complication occurs during the process.

Ma said that China will maintain an active and constructive attitude towards the new round of talks and do its part to promote the effort.
