Egypt sets Feb. 26 as 1st session of NGOs trial |

The first session of the trial against the 43 people, among them 19 Americans, reportedly involved in illegal foreign funding of the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Egypt is set to be held on Feb. 26, the Egyptian Court of Appeal said Saturday.
The first session will be held in North Cairo Criminal Court chaired by Judge Mohammad Mahmoud Shukry, official MENA news agency quoted chief of the Court of Appeal Abdel-Moez Ibrahim as saying.
The accused face charges of establishing branches of international organizations in Egypt without work permits from the Egyptian authorities, and receiving foreign money to fund these branches which was considered a matter violating the Egyptian sovereignty.
Son of the U.S. Transportation Secretary, Sam Lahoud, is one of 19 Americans to be tried. |
