Egypt's SCAF calls for parliamentary session on constituent assembly
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-27 13:56

Egypt's military rulers on Sunday called on both houses of the parliament to hold a common session on March 3 over the forming of an assembly tasked with drafting a new constitution.

Head of the People's Assembly (lower house) Saad al-Katatni said on Sunday that Hussein Tantawi, chief of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), had sent a telegraph calling both houses to a meeting slated for Saturday morning.

"The meeting will be held to elect the Constituent Assembly members who will draft the new constitution of the state," Katatni said.

According to the Constitutional Declaration, which was announced by the SCAF after it took power last year, the elected members of the lower and upper houses are responsible for choosing the members of the Constituent Assembly.
