Egypt to install surveillance cameras in all sports facilities

Egypt's Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri decided to install surveillance cameras in all sports facilities after the Feb. 1 football fans clashes in the Port Said stadium which left 74 people dead and hundreds injured, official newspaper al-Ahram reported Sunday.

Ganzouri made his decision after holding two meetings Saturday over the Port Said tragedy and the possible resumption of domestic football activities. Ganzouri will appoint a new governor for Port Said within days.

Emad al-Bannani, head of the National Sports Council, said the penalties for the Port Said's al-Masry team will be announced within ten days.

Last week, Egypt referred 75 people to a criminal court for their connection with the football match riots. The charged included nine police officers, three officials of el-Masry club and two minors. Among the police officers were former Provincial Security Chief Essam Samak and Commander of Central Security Forces Abdel Aziz Fahmi in Port Said.

On Feb. 1, clashed broke tout in Port Said stadium after el-Masry team beat the most popular national team el-Ahly three to one in an Egyptian premier league.
