More than half members of the new Egyptian cabinet, including head of the foreign ministry, have been confirmed, state TV reported Wednesday.

According to a line-up broadcast on Nile TV, 21 members of the cabinet have been confirmed.

Members of the former cabinet including Foreign Minister Mohammed Kamel Amr, Finance Minister Momtaz el-Saeid, State Minister for Scientific Research Nadia Zakhari, Insurance and Social Affairs Minister Nagwa Khalil, State Minister for Antiquities Mohamed Ibrahim Ali will keep their post in the new cabinet.

The 21-member line-up also covered Higher Education Minister Mostafa Mosaad, Oil Minister Osama Kamal, Communication Minister Hani Mahmoud and Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou.

Other members of the cabinet, like the defense minister and justice minister, remain unknown.

The line-up did not mention any information about who will be the vice president.

Newly-named Prime Minister Hesham Qandil, who acted as the irrigation minister in former Prime Minister Kamal el-Ganzouri's cabinet, was appointed as the prime minister by President Mohamed Morsi on July 24.

His appointment sparked some controversy among political forces and citizens. Some say the country needs an economic expert to be the prime minister while Qandil lacks such experience. Others say Qandil should be given a chance and people should wait to see his performance.

The bearded new prime minister also makes some people worry that he shares the same ideology with Morsi.

Morsi, from the Muslim Brotherhood, was elected as the first civilian president of Egypt in June and assumed office on June 30. However, the military council, which has transferred power to Morsi, retains legislative power as the People's Assembly (lower house of parliament) was dissolved in June due to unconstitutionality. A new constitution has not yet been drafted.
