No threat to stop U.S. aids to Egypt: FM
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-09-22 07:41

Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Amr denied Thursday any threats at the official level to stop U.S. aids to Egypt over the protests against an anti-Islam movie, the state media reported.

"There is no problem in the two countries' relations," official news agency MENA quoted a press statement of Amr as saying.

"We all know that some protests took place outside the U.S. embassy in Cairo but no deaths were reported, which was appreciated by the U.S. side," added the statement.

The U.S. administration expressed at a Senate meeting on Wednesday that the assistance package for Egypt will be passed without decrease, said Amr.

The statement added that "there is a thin line between the freedom of expression and inciting hatred on sectarian, racist or religious base."

U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson said Tuesday that Egypt- U.S. relations are based on strong strategic interests, expressing her confidence in restoring the momentum of the relations soon.

She ruled out that the United States will renege on its announcements to extend Egypt with a package of aids, noting that "there is understanding for the importance of the U.S.-Egyptian relations inside the American administration."
