Unknown group bombed Al-Andalusi shrine in Tajoura city, some 15 km east of Tripoli on Thursday, Libya's officials and eye-witnesses said.

An eye-witness told Xinhua that three explosive charges were transplanted inside the shrine and led to a loud explosion in the holy place during the early hours of Thursday.

The witness added that he did not see anyone near the place of blast.

The shrine, which was established more than 500 years ago, was completely collapsed due to the explosion, Sadat Badri, head of Tripoli Local Council told Xinhua.

Badri harshly criticized the explosion, adding that police have launched an investigation into the attack.

He said that the local council would have to develop a security plan in cooperation with the competent authorities to protect the holy places in Tripoli.

The Sufi sites in Libya were attacked by hardliners of Salafist as they regard the shrines as idolatrous.
