International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Friday decried worsening humanitarian situation in South Sudan as million of people are in need of food aid and medical care.

The agency said fighting is still continuing in some parts of South Sudan, four months after the beginning of the conflict as humanitarian needs continue to increase in South Sudan despite the approaching rainy season.

Melker Mabeck, head of the ICRC delegation in South Sudan said roads will become impassable and aircraft will not be able to use land on mud.

"We have boosted our logistical capacity and will continue to adapt our response, but it will still be a challenge to accomplish what we set out to do," he added.

The move comes after the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) said on Friday its monitoring and verification teams have started operations in South Sudan.

There have been accusations and counter-accusations on noncompliance to the agreements since the signing of the cessation of hostilities and release of political detainers in Addis Ababa.
