French President Francois Hollande and his Malian counterpart Ibrahim Boubacar Keita on Saturday pledged "common measures" to strengthen security in Mali where a fresh attack left five victims.

"The two presidents decided common measures to reinforce security in Mali," Hollande's office said in a statement, without elaborating on the measures.

Over a phone conversation with Malian leader, Hollande also expressed "France's total support (of Mali) in the fight against terrorism."

In a separate statement, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius confirmed earlier that one French national was among the victims killed by gunmen in an attack on a restaurant in Bamako, the capital of Mali.

The attack strengthened France's determination to "fight terrorism in all its forms," Fabius added.

Shortly after the deadly attack, the French embassy in Mali warned all French nationals in Bamako to take extra caution if they had to leave their homes.
