5.9-magnitude quake hits off U.S. west coast |

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted off the coast of Oregon State on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake, which happened around 3:43 p.m. local time ( 2241 GMT), was with a depth of 14 kilometer, and appeared to be centered near the area where seismic plates intersect.
The quake was initially reported as a magnitude of 6.2. The USGS said it is not related to the massive earthquakes in Indonesia earlier Wednesday.
The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued no tsunami warnings.
Local TV said there were no immediate reports of damages or casualties. |
