Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-18 07:50

Mexican President Felipe Calderon said Thursday that he hoped his administration would be remembered as the one that started the road to restoration of peace and the fight against organized crimes.

Calderon made the remarks in an interview with the local media while attending the opening ceremony of a two-day meeting of the World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC) in the Riviera Maya in the southeastern state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.

"We are fighting for Mexicans to have more security and I know that for future generations in Mexico, one day they will agree on that this administration began the battle to achieve security and the fight is well underway and we hope to see fruit in the future, "he said.

Calderon, with six months to complete his term, said that the fight has not been easy from the start, which has turned out it would take time and would cost the loss of human lives.

He said the struggle for security focuses on three areas: confronting criminals, capturing 23 of 37 main perpetrators of organized crimes and strengthening law enforcement institutions which are added with 360,000 officers, including 12,000 professionals such as lawyers and engineers.

"Mexico will be the safest place, the country safer than we want, that would be part of my legacy," said Calderon.

More than 50,000 people have been killed and about 10,000 others remain missing since Calderon took office in December 2006 and launched the "war against organized crimes." Enditem
